ABS-CBN: A Brief Introduction
Pinoy media history has got riped with time. Started on a low scale with only one broadcasting agency, the media industry in Philippines have become one of the greatest industries in the world and particularly Asia.
ABS-CBN is actually a merger came into being in the year 1967 when the two companies Alto Broadcasting System and Chronicle Broadcasting Network decided to step into a joint venture. Till 2010 it reminded ABS-CBN Corporation and after that shortened by erasing the Corporation suffix from the name.
ABS-CBN is not only a TV program provider group. It is the country’s largest entertainment group which runs radio networks as well. Only the television network by ABS-CBN alone generates about 40-60% of the yearly revenue of the whole group. The recent launch of mobile telephony named ‘ABS-CBN Mobile’ and a home shopping website ‘ O Shopping’ is another step of the group in other sectors of the entertainment industry.
